My sister ran the London marathon!!!

Personal

So 7 days have passed since the Marathon took place in London. I still can’t quite get my head around this event, it’s just so far! I have watched parts of the Marathon in previous years on TV but this was the first time I had gone to watch it as it happened. I used to always think who the hell would want to run that far but after seeing the strength and determination everyone put in to raise money for some great causes I have a completly different view on it (for a split second I did consider doing it myself next year).

It was so fun to cheer on all the runners and it was so amazing to see my sister at different points along the course. A few weeks before the Marathon it was a bit touch and go as to whether my sister could actually run the race after she damaged her foot while training. She did a 19 mile run (which I stupidly agreed to join her on, on my bike, never again!) in the bitterly cold weather while it was snowing. We both had moments where we broke down in tears because it was so awful but a few days after she realised she had damaged her foot quite badly. She had physio and was told she may not be able to run, she was told to wear a boot and rest it which meant she couldn’t train.

After everything she had put into this and the huge amount of money she had raised she was determined to still run and on April 21st 2013 my sister completed the London Marathon. I can not even put into words how proud I am of her. She has never been sporty and I did laugh when she said she was running it but she did it  😀  Well done Jemma and Vicki and Emma who she ran with.

It was great to see the professionals whizz passed!

I take my hat off to anyone who ran in fancy dress, it was such a hot day, great job!

I had a trip on the cable car over the Thames to get to a different point on the course. I’d recommend this to anyone, so fun.

Great post Charlotte. I know what you mean about watching people run and feeling inspired to sign up to the next one. It never quite happens for me though!
