Wedding in Winkworth Farm
Serving Cotswolds with a side of Tuscany
Freya and Ashley’s wedding in Winkworth Farm might just be the day that had everything! There was a dreamy outdoor ceremony, gorgeous styling, tons of DIY details, and a whole lotta love to go with it. There was even a vibey outfit change and a golden Cotswolds sunset.
And to top it all off, it all went down in one of my favourite ever wedding venues!
Sitting on the edge of the Cotswolds, Winkworth Farm in Wiltshire is an absolute gem of a place to get married. The 17th Century renovated barn is surrounded by 200 acres of gorgeous gardens, lawns and meadows. And when the sun is shining, the place is serving Cotswolds with a side of Tuscany.
If you’re looking for a romantic place to get married in the Cotswolds, come take a look. Freya and Ashley’s wedding in Winkworth Farm was pretty freakin’ special…
The best way to start your wedding day in Winkworth Farm
Our story begins with Freya and her girls, getting ready in the Courtyard Barn at Winkworth Farm.
The renovated barn is the perfect place to spend your wedding morning. With tons of space, and super-comfy, “I might just have a little nap” sofas, you can really sprawl out and get cosy. And best of all? It’s on site! So once you’ve finished getting ready, you can literally just stroll outside to your ceremony.
If you’re getting married in Winkworth Farm, booking the Courtyard Barn is an absolute game-changer.
Anyway, that’s enough about the barn, let’s get on with the story…
From the moment I walked in, the buzz in the air was infectious. Everyone was chilling on the sofas, laughing, telling stories and drinking prosecco.
And you know what? The morning prep has got to be one of my favourite parts of the day. Having a few drinks, listening to music, getting all excited as you get ready together…that’s a morning with your besties you’ll never forget.
As I looked around the room, the ‘Something Blue’ was already in full force! The mismatched sky-blue bridesmaids dresses, the cornflower accents in Freya’s headpiece. Even the accents in the barn were blue (which made the wedding photographer in me very happy!)
And of course, Freya looked incredible. I adored her classically-stylish dress, elegant hair and makeup, and stunning white and gold earrings. It was a timelessly beautiful bridal look. She looked exquisite.
A few minutes later, we heard a knock on the door, and Feya’s dad walked in.
The next few minutes were a blur of cuddles and tears. They laughed, they kissed, they hugged again. Freya scooped up her gorgeous blue and white bouquet. And we headed out into the sunshine for their wedding in Winkworth Farm.
The rose garden in Winkworth Farm
Imagine yourself walking through the peaceful gardens of a Cotswolds farm. Bees hum happily from the flowerbeds as you pass. The sunlight dapples through the leaves. And you hear birds singing from the trees above you.
As you reach some steps, you skip down them, and duck beneath a curtain of wisteria. You pull back the vines, and find yourself in a private- almost secret– courtyard. Drenched in sunshine, and filled with the smell of roses.
This was where Freya and Ashley got married.
If you’re having your wedding in Winkworth Farm, there are plenty of ceremony spaces to choose from. From the hidden rose garden, to the gorgeous Threshers Barn, every choice is as stunning as the next.
Vows amongst the roses
Sunshine filled the private little space, and a soft breeze danced in the flowers. When the chairs had been filled, the guests found space on benches, on walls, in alcoves. Winkworth Farm in general is amazing. But there’s something magical about that rose garden.
As Freya and her dad made their entrance, Ashley began to well up. And everyone- myself included- started to join him! And when Freya kissed her dad, and took Ashley’s hands, the way they looked at each other was simply magic.
The ceremony itself was beautiful. Filled with lots of laughter, and love. And all the while, Freya’s infectious smile flashed out across the rose garden.
When the officiant had made it official, a huge cheer filled the little courtyard, and Ashley and Freya were greeted with a flurry of confetti.
Couples wedding photography in Winkworth Farm
One of the great things about having your wedding in Winkworth Farm is the atmosphere. There’s just something about the place, you know? Wherever you go, you can’t help but feel super-chilled.
We hung out in the courtyard after the ceremony, finding shade where we could, hugging congratulations. Prosecco, beers and Pimms in the sunshine.
After a while, I took my chance and snuck off with F&A to give them a little alone time away from the crowds.
I always love this quiet, calm, intimate part of the day. And as we came down into the rose garden, the sound of their guests faded away. And it felt like we’d tumbled into our own little world.
Freya and Ashley were such a joy to be around. Always laughing with each other, forever kissing, holding hands. I’m a big softie at heart. And when I see people so obviously in love with each other, it makes me go all gooey inside!
We left the roses behind, and went for a little stroll to explore the grounds together. We found some lawn games, had a little play, and enjoyed the feel of warm grass beneath our feet. Soon our stomachs began to grumble, so we finished our drinks and headed back to the party.
DIY reception styling inspiration
F&A had their reception in the Threshing Barn at Winkworth Farm. And oh my, what a beautiful space!
Exposed wooden beams. Fairy lights twinkling from rustic brick walls. And huge doors along one side, flooding the place with natural light. It’s a warm, modern, rustic space. And Freya and Ashley had taken it to a whole new level.
They’d named their table names after Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Friends quotes. There were handmade place settings, in blue and gold. Personal handmade wedding favours. A gorgeous (and delicious!) blue, white and gold cake.
I thought the guest book was a great idea as well. With a polaroid camera for people to snap a photo and leave a message. These guys really had thought of everything.
There was a handmade keepsake cushion their family had made them. And a little hand-knitted blue wedding car, complete with a little trail of bells! Everywhere you looked, there were little personal touches, and countless labours of love.
It was beautiful. But above all, it was theirs.
An outfit change, and a golden sunset
Freya and Ashley made an epic entrance, and everyone went properly wild! And don’t you just love Freya’s vibey outfit change?! The awesomely glamorous off-the-shoulder evening gown was the perfect way to kick off the evening.
There were some hilarious, heartfelt speeches, and after a truly scrumptious meal, we all picked up our drinks and headed out into the golden light of the evening.
The sky was filled with a warm glow, and the trees were silhouetted against the crimson sky.
We got some cool shots with the girls. And as the sun began to set, Freya and Ashley kissed, held hands, and watched the last of the light disappear behind the Cotswolds hills.
